Romanus Ugochukwu Obi, representing Orumba-North state constituency in the outgoing 6th Anambra assembly, has brought to the knowledge of the House that there is no ongoing road project in the entire Orumba-North.
Obi made the revelation on Tuesday while presenting a motion calling on the state governor Chief Willie Obiano to direct the state commissioner for works as well as the chairman of the state tenders board to, as a matter of urgent public importance, produce and submit to the Anambra State Executive Council the report of the Revised Estimated Total Cost for Awgbu-Amaetiti-Ndiukwuenu road to enable the contractor to go back to site and also attend to other roads in Orumba-North.
He also disclosed that the said road was awarded in 2013 but work stopped on the road and six years after nothing was done on it. For this reason he appealed to the state government to expedite the process of constructing the road as it would help alleviate the sufferings of those in the hinterlands in evacuating farm produce.
The lawmaker however emphasized that apart from Awgbu-Amaetiti-Ndiukwuenu road, Orumba-North as a constituency is in dire need of roads and that the state government should come to its rescue.
Also, Kingsley Iruba of Nnewi-south constituency one was of the opinion that the state commissioner for works and the chairman of the state tenders board should do the needful to ensure that the contractor is mobilized to site to complete the aforementioned road.
Hon. Uche Okafor of Ayamelum state constituency was of the view that the idea of no road construction works in Orumba-North should be expunged totally from the motion but Romanus Ugochukwu Obi argued that his colleagues did not know his constituency more than him.
Timothy Ifedioramma of Njikoka one state constituency also seconded the amendment made by his Ayamelum counterpart that the notion that there is no road construction works ongoing in Orumba-North should be removed from the motion.
