Non-Indigenes in Anambra state have expressed their avowed commitment and determination to root massive support for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to ensure that the party wins the 2021 governorship elections.
The resolution of the non-indigenes was made known to journalists in Awka at the weekend by the Executive Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Non-Indigenes Mobilisation Hon. Ferguson Okpara.
He disclosed that non-indigenes resident in Anambra state played pivotal role during the 2017 gubernatorial polls which saw Governor Willie Obiano to his second term in office. He said they contributed over 25% of the votes that saw the governor to victory.
Okpara further disclosed that since the creation of Anambra state in 1991, Governor Willie Obiano was the only governor to create an office of non-indigenes where they would be galvanised and their needs presented to the state government.
According to him, non-indigenes in the state had projected over 50% of the votes in the forthcoming governorship elections for APGA and they would equally ensure that none of their votes was lost to the opposition.
Okpara who was the former National Youth Leader of APGA, also noted that Governor Willie Obiano in his first term incorporated non-indigenes in his government through his involvement of the Northern community in the state, stressing that the non-indigenes would ensure that the governor’s good leadership initiative was not dragged through the mud.
He said they already have a workplan which primarily has to do with the restructuring of non-indigenes in all the 21 local government areas of Anambra state even as he explained that the governor has created a political ward for non-indigenes in Nnewi-south; that before long the wards for non-indigenes would be replicated in all the local governments.
Okpara also posited that they had come up with a number of programmes which includes skill acquisition, talent-hunt shows, miss non-indigenes beauty pageant, Dr. Willie Obiano yearly soccer competition as well as the maiden non-indigenes cultural carnival slated for December this year. He pointed out that the aforestated activities would help boost the good leadership of Governor Willie Obiano in Anambra state.
He however took cognisance of the fact that Governor Willie Obiano’s security strategies were yielding positive results in Anambra state stressing that crime rate has reduced drastically across the state.
Okpara advised the citizenry to provide useful information to the state government and security agencies to enable them to maintain the tranquil atmosphere that existed in the state as well as nip criminal tendencies in the bud.
