The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps says it has discovered and  apprehended a couple in Anambra state whose stock-in-trade is to advertise fake NSCDC recruitment notice on the internet to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

The agency disclosed that the couple allegedly advertise vacancy notice purportedly being handled by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and demand between three and four thousand naira for recruitment forms which applicants would pay into a certain bank account to enable them to access the said forms from the internet.

State commandant of the NSCDC in Anambra state Mr. John Ahwen while giving update on the activities of the corps in the last few months at the command headquarters in Awka on Wednesday, told journalists that the couple and their syndicate not only collect money for application forms but also demand about five thousand naira for NSCDC uniforms which would be issued to the candidate upon engagement.

Ahwen however cautioned that NSCDC was not recruiting at the moment and that all government agencies including the NSCDC advertise vacant positions in the newspapers and other designated media before doing same on the organisation’s website pointing out that members of the public should be vigilant as well as verify such information before responding.

He also stated that the anti-vandalism unit of the agency has been proactive in ensuring that crimes were curtailed in Onitsha and other major cities in the state adding that the agency has equally partnered the Nigerian Navy in its operations to fight criminal elements on waterways in the state.

The state commandant further disclosed that the corps has in the last few weeks concentrated on reduction of street trading in line with the mandate of the state government to decongest the streets as markets on the streets were forbiden noting that such were breeding ground for criminals.

According to him, shops erected on gutters were evacuated while disgruntled elements were equally chased away from pedestrian bridges across the state noting that commercial motorcycle riders suspected to be aiding criminality were also apprehended by the agency.

Ahwen who disclosed that the agency also protects water projects and other public utilitues across Anambra state, maintained that the state command has been proactive in the arrest of vehicles and individuals destroying electrical and other installations stressing that over 30 vehicles have been impounded for destroying installations while the agency has also arrested illegal miners excavating and evacuating mineral resources illegally in Anambra state.
