Anambra State Governor Chief Willie Obiano has confirmed and approved special allowances for fire fighters in the state.
The governor also approved promotions for public servants in the state workforce as well as approved provisions for gratuities of local government staff and contributory pension schemes.
Anambra State Head of Service Barr. Harry Uduh disclosed the latest development in the government circle to newsmen shortly after the state executive council meeting at the government house Awka on Tuesday.
Uduh explained that the confirmations and approvals carried out by the state governor were products of the Deputy Governor’s committee report on outstanding labour issues in the state, stressing that workers’ welfare was of paramount importance to the governor.
The Head of Service of the Anambra State Civil Service further noted that there was absolutely no reason whatsoever for workers to embark on strike as labour matters especially as it concerns motivation and other incentives for workers occupied front burner of government policies and programmes.
He said the governor has approved workers’ promotion with a promise of salary increase in line with the proposed new national minimum wage.
On the proposed November 6 , Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) nationwide indefinite strike , the Head of Service opined that the NLC and the Federal Government had reached some level of understanding on the debate for new national minimum wage, stressing that it would be most unwise for the industrial dispute to happen because it won’t be in the national interest.
He therefore admonished the leadership of NLC to reach implementable resolutions with the federal government to avoid a total shut down of the nation’s economy.
