Dr. Harry Oranezi who was the Director-General of the Atiku/Obi Presidential Campaign Council in Anambra state has said that Governor Willie Obiano has done virtually nothing for Nnewi-south, his local government area .
He said Nnewi-south council area was completely bereft of social amenities and infrastructure that would qualify the area for habitations, should government beam its developmental searchlight on the area.
Another problematic issue he raised was that the worst mistake Governor Willie Obiano made was supporting President Muhammadu Buhari outright in the last general elections against the wishes of Ndi-Anambra.
He said such was an act of sabotage on Igbo cause and that the people should not be blindfolded by his whims and caprices.
On assessment of his five years in office as Governor of Anambra state, Oranezi opined that Governor Obiano did well only in his first six months in office and thereafter derailed completely due to what he termed a visionless administration run by the incumbent governor.
The Director-General who spoke with our correspondent via a telephone interview further alleged that since the governor deviated from the right track, he has been going from bad to worst and derailed completely from the precedents his predecessor left behind. He stressed that all the gains ex-governor Peter Obi made in government have all been lost due to what he described as the governor’s complacent attitude to governance.
He said there was no presence of the state government in Nnewi-South in terms of infrastructure. According to him, “The governor has not been able to do one kilometer road in Nnewi-South” pointing out that apart from the twenty million naira community choose your project scheme used in building the Civic Center, nothing else has been done in Nnewi-South in the last five years of his cueless administration.
The PDP chieftain also alleged that the erosion control project ex-governor Peter Obi awarded and released funds to the contractor in Nnewi-South was stopped by Governor Willie Obiano, noting that the said erosion has caused more devastation in the area. He maintained that Nnewi-south was infrastructurally backward especially as it concerns erosion menace that is gradually eating up the entire local government area.
But in a swift reaction, the Chief Press Secretary to the Anambra State Governor, Mr. James Eze, debunked allegations that Governor Obiano has done nothing for Nnewi-south. He said the governor’s all-round development drive criss-crosses not only Nnewi-south but the entire state.
Eze noted that the governor has embarked on a number of community-based projects across the state and Nnewi-south in particular ranging from ongoing road project at Udoji road Ozubulu, ongoing Isuofia-Ekwulobia General Hospital road being asphalted, ongoing road construction of Isigwu-Oraifite-Akwa Ozubulu with a spur at St Mary’s Oraifite, construction of Ezira-Umuomaku-Enugwu Umuonyia-Achina road with a 20 metres bridge under construction.
The Chief Press Secretary to the governor further reeled out more projects by the Obiano administration to include construction of Nnokwa-Ichida-Oraeri-Aguluzigbo road, construction of Malinze-Ugwuorie -Umuike-Ezinifite road, erosion control works at Ezinifite Nnewi south, erosion control works at Nkwo to Nkwo road Oraifite road to Nkwo Nnewi road.
Others, according to him, were construction of Chisco-Amichi-Ogbodi-Osumenyi Road, construction of Coscharis road Nnewi, ongoing construction of Isekke-Osumoghu- Azia-Ukpor roads project with a bridge across Ulasi River, provision of streetlights at Afor Ukpor-LG headquarters road, provision of street lights at Igwe Orizu road Nnewi, provision of streetlights at Amichi-Otolo-Nwanyi ocha road, povision of streetlights at Chisco road Amichi, provision of streetlights at Amichi-Azigbo-Ichida road, provision of streetlights at Amichi-Ekwulumili road, provision of streetlights at Ochendo road Amichi, provision of streetlights at Utuh-Osumenyi-eke osumenyi road, erosion control works at Nnewichi Nnewi, amongst numerous other projects in Nnewi-south as well as the entire Anambra-south senatorial district.
