Obiano’s Aide Sues For Legislation Against Fake News, Hate Speech

Raymond Ozoji, Awka

The Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Special Duties and Public Orientation, Hon. Ify Obinabo, has called on lawmakers of the Anambra State House of Assembly to enact a law that would make it a punishable offense for anyone spreading fake news and hate speech on the social media.

She said such information were only intended to deceive and mislead the public especially when such messages were targeted at destroying the reputation of the Anambra state government.

Obinabo who stated this at the weekend while speaking with select journalists, said part of the provisions of the law should make it mandatory for people to speak the truth and not incite the citizenry against the powers that be due to quest to usurp the government in power.

She said such laws were needed urgently in Anambra state to track down perpetrators of hate speeches, stressing that the present state government was working assiduously to bequeath a new Anambra to the people.

Obinabo however called on Ndi-Anambra in the Diaspora to take advantage of the forthcoming Christmas and New Year festivities to come home and invest their wealth in the state because the governor has created a tranquil and serene business environment.

She said there was need for all and sundry to subscribe to a better and more prosperous Anambra as propagated by the governor even though she was cognisant of the fact that there were bad eggs in the system who took advantage of crisis situations for self-aggrandizements.

The governor’s aide appealed to the citizenry to key into the new Anambra project, championed by Governor Willie Obiano adding that those who live in a glass house should not throw stones.
