By Raymond Ozoji, Awka
The Chairman, Ogbaru local government area of Anambra state, Hon. Paschal Aniegbunam, has been commended for protecting and not abandoning victims of the 2022 flood disaster in his domain.
The lawmaker representing Ogbaru 1 state constituency in the House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwunonso Noble Igwe, gave the commendation on the floor of the House, saying that the local government chairman deserved a path on the back for fighting tooth and nail to ensure that persons displaced by flood were not abandoned but well taken care of.
Igwe, who said irrespective of the fact that the council chairman belonged to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and he was of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), there was need to publicly recognise and appreciate the efforts of the local government chairman for his doggedness and bravery in ensuring that persons displaced by the deluge got adequate safety and welfare.
The lawmaker said, “You know I am of the PDP extraction and the Chairman is of APGA extraction but you have to commend someone that is doing a good job. The TC chairman of Ogbaru local government Hon. Paschal Aniegbunam did a very wonderful job during the flood menace.
“He was running from one point to the other ensuring that people were evacuated to the IDP camps. He was visiting them every now and then, providing necessary assistance. He was giving them food, water and other materials. He didn’t just sit down as a TC chairman. He was running from one IDP camp to the other because the flood actually ravaged Ogbaru.
“So the TC chairman did a great job. I do see him and that was what motivated me to commend him on the floor of the House. I wish the state and federal government can do the same for Ndi-Ogbaru. We will really appreciate it.”
Meanwhile, Ogbaru council chairman, Hon. Paschal Aniegbunam, told our correspondent that for his constituency representative to declare publicly during plenary that he was exceptional during the flood was indeed an honour to him. He said he never knew his efforts would be appreciated especially on the floor of the Hallowed Chambers of the House of Assembly.
Aniegbunam stated that the flood began barely one month after his swearing-in as Ogbaru TC chairman and that he did what he did because it was his responsibility as the local government chairman to save his people from the pains and agony of the flood.
Aniegbunam, whose appointment as Ogbaru TC chairman was renewed for another term, said this time he would surpass his achievements in his first outing.
