Sir Alex Obiajulu Okoli is intensely proud of his Umunze underpinnings and heritage. He is a true Orumba and Old Aguata son and a knight of the Anglican Communion. One thing you can’t but notice in your interactions with the Nwachinamelu Umunze is that he is a man who chooses bridges over walls, forgiveness over bitterness and oneness over division.
Like Dr Chima Okoli from Ajalli, Alex holds tightly to the time-honoured Orumba ethical guiding philosophy that a good name is better than ill-gotten wealth.
Since listening to Prof. Chukwuma Soludo in 2006 deliver his epic paper on how he envisioned the Anambra of today and tomorrow, Alex’s mind has been stretched and has never been the same again. He believes that post-Governor Willie Obiano, Soludo is the man to lead Anambra to the next glory.
From his Houston base, Alex is convening and hosting a select group of Orumba elites under the banner of Soludo Promoters Forum, a body that is striving to encourage the elites to get involved in the way and manner our resources are applied to the affairs of our people.
Alex is a true apostle of Soludo Solution and tells anybody who cares to listen where he stands.
So why are Alex and many others enamoured of Soludo’s vision for Anambra?
Succinctly put, Soludo’s vision seeks to take Anambra to the first world and make it a place where we will be proud to live, work, enjoy and find fulfilment. The new Anambra is envisioned as a Smart Megacity with city centres and neighbourhoods with its signature landmark 21-story building Anambra Towers in Awka.
Technology will be used to make the city liveable and this will in turn steam the tide of migration of our best people to other places and also bring talented people from any part of the world to Anambra as the best of everything -educational intuitions, health facilities, manufacturing, entertainment, infrastructure among others will be in Anambra. Orumba will house many signature projects in the new scheme of things to be characterised by security, prosperity and one of the happiest place in Africa.
Prof. Soludo’s transformation of the banking sector, global networks in the financial community, solution driven approach to challenges, understanding and appreciation of local nuances, exceptional execution capacity, prodigious intellect etc support the optimism by many that he will do what he says.
It is therefore not surprising that many in diaspora and at home cannot wait for the foregoing to begin happening. In the same vein, you and I cannot wait to be in Umunze on Saturday November 7, 2020 for OPERATION FANTASTIC – to encourage Soludo to join the race for Anambra 2021 governorship election and work hand in hand with others for his victory at the poll. This will put enormous demands on our talents, education, time and resources. But trust me, it will pay off handsomely.
