Over 23,000 Applicants Apply For 1,000 Jobs In Bayelsa

More than 23,000 applicants have applied for the 1,000 jobs recently promised by the Bayelsa State Governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson.

The Commissioner III in the state Civil Service Commission, Chief Kunle Igoni-Claudius, revealed this in Yenagoa on Monday during the unveiling of the CSC Website by the Deputy Governor of the state, Rear Admiral John Jonah (retd.).

Governor Dickson had in June 2018 directed the State Civil Service Commission to commence the process of recruiting 1,000 young graduates, cutting across the eight local government areas of the state.

Dickson had said that the graduates write an entry examination to qualify for employment into the public service.

Igoni-Claudius, while giving the technical report on the recruitment exercise, said the commission commenced the process on June 19, 2018 by inviting qualified Bayelsans to apply.

He said that at the end of issuance of application forms, more than 23,000 applications were issued and more than 12,000 returned their duly completed forms.

He said the website being launched on Monday had such information as the list of all qualified (cleared) and unqualified (uncleared) candidates published according to their LGAs.

Igoni-Claudius said the criteria used for the screening were birth certificate or age declaration  (applicant not less than 18 years or more than 50 years); educational qualifications; NYSC discharge or exemption certificate; letter government identification letter, among others.

He said at the end of the screening, the total number of cleared candidates  from the councils were Brass, 1,187; Ekeremor 1,500; Kolokuma/Opokuma 1,230; Nembe, 993; Ogbia, 1,417; Sagbama, 2,171; Southern Ijaw, 2,075 and Yenagoa, 1817.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said it was also important for Bayelsans to know the criteria used to drop the others so that it would be clear to all that there is no hanky panky.

He said, “The credibility of the government has to be intact. As much as possible, we believe that the website being launched, will provide access to everybody to go there to get information for themselves and also take advantage of the platform.

“Another thing that we need to do is to encourage the chairman and members of the commission to from time to explain to our people. People will be asking questions, why is Nembe less while is Sagbama higher.

“We hope that the 1,000 that will be employed will serve the state better. Let me also say that your Excellency, Governor Seriake Dickson will still give room for more employment and this is just the beginning and we want to encourage those who may not be part of the first phase will be in the next phase.”
