The Osun State Governor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, has urged Osun indigenes in the Diaspora to partner his administration in its bid to further promote and project the Osun-Osogbo festival.
He said the partnership was needed to ensure that the festival compete with other major cultural festivals globally.
Speaking at the grand finale of this year’s celebration, Oyetola said after emerging the most popular cultural festival in Nigeria because the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation had listed Osun-Osogbo’s groove among its world heritage sites, there was the need for the festival to be further promoted to attract more global attention.
Represented by the Supervisor for Home Affairs, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Adebisi Babawale, the governor said Osun-Osogbo festival had grown into international standard, adding that the festival had been witnessed by about one million tourists from all parts of the world.
On the plans of his administration towards beautifying Osun groove, Oyetola said, “The government has done the renovation of the groove and we are constructing a car park to conform to the UNESCO standards.”
The Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, prayed for peace of the state and commended people for supporting the festival.
