… deploys about 500 personnel

The Federal Road Safety Commission has commenced special operations in Anambra state ahead of the 12th edition of the Nigeria Police Sports Festival slated for 29th February and terminates 7th March, 2020.
Sector commander of the commission in Anambra state, Mr.Andrew Ayodele Kumapayi, who disclosed it to our correspondent at the command headquarters in Awka on Friday, said the special operations were designed specifically for the Police Games in order to ensure free flow of traffic from the opening ceremony to the final day.
Kumapayi noted that the special operations became necessary because of the influx of visitors for the sports festival into Anambra state and there was need to ensure free flow of human and vehicular movements at the designated venues for the sports fiesta.
According to him, about 500 officers have been deployed for the exercise and all logistic arrangements have been made to ensure that there are no hitches.
The sector commander said, “We have released operation order for the police games that is starting on 29th February and is expected to last until 7th March, 2020.
The exercise is expected to attract dignitaries to the state and in line with our statutory responsibility as the lead agency in traffic management, we have released an operation order in order to guide a very smooth operation for what we are going to do during the exercise.”
He further disclosed that the traffic management is expected to cover all locations around the state especially areas like Onitsha, Nteje, Awka, so that the athletes can move freely to their respective locations in the state.
The modus operandi for the exercise, the FRSC boss hinted, is that officers of the commission would be fully deployed and that regular Marshals would also form part of the special operation team.
Kumapayi pointed out that areas of emphasis during the operations include Golden Tulip hotel Agulu, governnent house junction Awka, Prof.Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre Awka, Otuocha stadium, Amawbia, NYSC main camp, Aroma junction Awka, Rojenny stadium, head bridge, Upper Iweka Onitsha, Boromy roundabout and other flashpoints, stressing that about 520 personnel would be deployed for the special operations to ensure free human and vehicular movements during the police games in Anambra state.
