Anambra State Commissioner of Police Mr. Garba Baba Umar has said that police officers riding motorcycles across the state will be arrested and the law will take its natural course on them.
The commissioner stated this on Thursday at the command headquarters Awka during a press conference.
He said the police and other security agents were not above the law and that where they contravened the law, they would be held culpable.
Umar stressed that following the ban on motorcycles in designated places in Anambra, he gave an “order and a signal that any police officer found violating this law should be arrested. And also the commander of the 302 Artillery Division Onitsha has informed his officers and has made some arrests just the way we have arrested erring police officers. Any police officer driving motorcycles after 7 o’clock must be arrested…”
The commissioner maintained that places where there was an outright ban on motorcycles, no police officer was expected to be seen flouting the order.
He however charged journalists to be vigilant in detecting police officers and other security agents driving motorcycles and report same to the command headquarters.
Meanwhile, the police also paraded some suspected criminals with various offences, assuring Anambra citizens that the police would not rest on their oars in maintaining a crime-free and tranquil atmosphere in Anambra.
