The Anambra State Police Command is to set up information centres in markets, roundabouts, parks and a host of other places with high population density to enable it to gather intelligence report from members of the public to aid the command in sustaining crime reduction in the state.
Police Public Relations Officer of the command SP Haruna Mohammed disclosed this to journalists at the headquarters of the command in Awka while giving update on the activities of the command.
He said the command would place suggestion boxes and other apparatus in the earlier mentioned places to enhance police community relations as well as help the police with useful information on crime prevention and also improve on their services to members of the public.
The PPRO who observed that crime rate had reduced in Anambra state, noted that in order to bring policing to the door-step of the people, the Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Idris created more divisions and new area commands to ensure adequate security for the citizenry.
Mohammed also stated that the command in collaboration with the Anambra State Government got logistic support in terms of security patrol vehicles which he said were distributed to various units and divisions of the command to beef up security across the state.
He said that in the last one month, the command has intensified strategies in terms of arrests and prosecution of offenders, pointing out that it recently paraded some suspected armed robbers and recovered over 13 exotic vehicles ranging from sport utility vehicles, Lexus cars, Toyota Camry and a host of others.
According to him, the suspected armed robbers were over 15 and were subsequently arraigned before the court. The command also arrested some suspected cult members who confessed to some crimes and were arraigned before the court of law. He informed that the command also put up security strategies along Onitsha axis in view of the incessant armed robbery attacks in the area.
