Prayers Can’t Cure Coronavirus — Ezeonwuka

Raymond Ozoji, Awka

The Spiritual leader of the Igbo nation and proprietor of Rojenny Games Village Oba, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, has called on the members of the public to be wary of the antics of fake pastors who claim that prayers can eliminate coronavirus pandemic.

Ogilisi Igbo stated clearly that the intention of such pastors who mostly operate mushroom churches was to take advantage of the fear of coronavirus to lure people in their church to extort money from them.

Speaking in Oba Idemili-South local government area of Anambra state at the weekend, Chief Ezeonwuka also called on State Governors to approve interstate movement of food items and livestock through way bills for availability of food items for the people to buy, and again, allow farmers transport their agricultural produce from their farm, pointing out that the closure of interstate borders was impacting negatively on big farmers who depended on moving agricultural produce to neighboring states to sustain production.

“I have gathered from reliable sources that large scale farmers are finding it very difficult to move their produce to neighboring states because of the continued closure of interstate borders and that is not good because if farmers can’t move their produce out of the farm, people can’t see food in the market to buy and the farmers too can’t sustain their workforce for production.”

He added, “I just spoke with a mega farmer here in Anambra State and he lamented that the closure of interstate borders has blocked the movement of produce from the farm to Enugu, Benue, Kogi, Awka Ibom, Edo, Rivers and the rest of them. So, as the Spiritual leader of the Igbo nation, I want to appeal to the State Governors to allow the movement of food items via way bill with the driver and his conductor along with a representative of the owner of the goods on board the vehicle conveying food items from one State to another.”

The Ogilisi Igbo mandated the general public to follow the directive and guidelines issued by the Government against the spread of coronavirus such as wearing of face mask, washing of hands with soap and sanitizer and keeping social distance and avoid falling into the trap of these fake pastors who proclaim that prayers can deal with coronavirus noting that churches are still under lock and key in Europe where the churches originated.

The Igbo Spiritual leader observed that some of these fake pastors had no regards for the directive and guideline issued by the Government on reopening of churches because their focus is to lure people to the roadside structures they call church just for monetary interests.

He noted that Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State demonstrated his considerate nature, as a good Christian, by reopening the churches and rolled out safety guidelines for worshippers but the scammers who mask themselves as men of God play to the gallery by ignoring what they were asked to do, thereby making a mess of all the efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.

“Let me make it clear to the general public, prayer is neither the solution nor a means by which coronavirus will be contained. Anyone spreading such deceptive message must be an agent of Lucifer.”

Ezeonwuka called on security agencies and community vigilance outfits to beam their search light on mushroom churches and arrest any pastor and his followers who fail to adhere to the directive and guidelines against the spread of coronavirus.

“Churches are still under lock and key in Europe where the churches originated, if prayer can deal with coronavirus, why can’t they open churches in Europe and be praying?” he asked.

Ogilisi-Igbo warned that directive to bury dead bodies immediately must be followed and hailed Obi of Onitsha who had issued directives to Onitsha indigenes never to deposit corpses in mortuaries without immediate burial. “Let all traditional rulers follow Igwe Achebe’s example and avoid keeping dead bodies without committing them to mother earth immediately,” he  said.
