Repent Or Change Environment, Police Tell Criminals In Anambra

The Police in Anambra state have paraded over 90 suspects for offences ranging from hand-bag snatching, pocket-picking and a host of other crimes in Onitsha and its environs.
Parading the suspects at the Area Command Onitsha, the police spokesman in the state SP Haruna Mohammed said the clampdown on the suspects was done on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
He said, “As part of efforts to stem the tide of crime in the state, the Anambra state police command in conjunction with other sister agencies, jointly carried out a raid on black spots and criminal hideouts particularly at Upper Iweka and  Aba-Owerri road.
“A total number of 90 suspects were arrested in connection with pick-pocketing, hand-bag snatching, Indian hemp smokers and other social deviants within Onitsha and environment.
“Also, a total number of 25 suspects were arrested in connection with illegal revenue collections; whereas the state government has banned illegal revenue collections in the state and these operations were carefully coordinated by the Area Commander ACP John and the operations were hitch-free.”
The Police Public Relations Officer said the suspects would be profiled and those found wanting would be charged to court while those not found wanting would be released unconditionally.
He said they were all entiled to their rights and privileges as suspects, noting that the essence of the massive raid on criminal elements was to reaffirm that safety and security were utmost priorities of law enforcement agencies in the state.
The PPRO said that Anambra police command under the leadership of CP John Bassey Abang has assured the citizenry of a peaceful and tranquil Christmas celebration this year and that criminals must repent or change environment.
