Raymond Ozoji, Awka
The new Anambra state Executive of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has been inaugurated by the state Chairman, Dr Webster Okonkwo.
Inaugurating the Exco at the SDP state Secretariat office, Udoka Housing Estate, along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Awka at the weekend, Dr Okonkwo said with the inauguration, the party is ready for the 2019 general elections as it shall field candidates in all elective positions in the state.
He said SDP was willing to give special considerations to youths and women who were true democrats and worthy Ambassadors of the state to contest elective positions, since SDP keyed in on the ‘Not Too Young To Run Bill’’.
Dr Okonkwo insisted that SDP was ready to reclaim Anambra state having won it in the Third Republic when Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife was elected as Governor of Anambra state. He noted that the people of Anambra State would vote SDP again because SDP is pro-people and behind the people unlike other political parties.
The Anambra State SDP Chairman said it was unfortunate that in the past 19 years, a few individuals enjoyed the resources of the entire people and were never part of decision making whereas SDP is a party that would engage everybody in the decision making, hence it could be concluded that it is participatory democracy that SDP is preaching.
He said time has come for SDP to be voted into office to enable it to take decisions that are collective, just, fair and in line with ideals of democracy in developed world, adding that SDP is offering its platform for the people to be part of decision making especially the neglected section of the people, the youth and women.
He said it is in only SDP that there existed youth parliament and women parliament, an innovation SDP brought into democracy to develop talent for future leaders.
He further said the party has fixed its Primary elections as follows: Presidential primary on 6th of October, Governorship primary 28th of September, Senatorial Primary on 25th of September, House of Representatives 24th September, State House of Assembly, 23rd September even as he said their nomination forms are cheap and affordable.
He said House of Assembly nomination is N400,000 and Expression of Interest N100,000; Federal House of Representatives Expression of Interest N200,000 and Nomination is N800,000; Senatorial nomination form is N2M while its expression of interest is N500,000.
State Secretary of Social Democratic Party, SDP in Anambra state, Hon Benson Mgbeike said SDP is the only credible alternative for Anambra electorate as PDP is still embattled, APC not a party to be mentioned in Anambra state because of its baggage and rejection by the people, while APGA governs without recourse to the people like the banning of Okada people without consultation.
Some of the officials inaugurated are: Woman Speaker Iyom Ogo Obika; Youth Speaker, Barr Raphael Okeke; Hon Emeka Makachi; Zonal Chairmen —Central, Chief Jerry Nwabia; North, Hon John Onyimonyi; South, Edwin Nwokike; Deputy Chairman, Hon Felix Eke and Publicity Secretary, Mmayie Okwuchukwu Okeke among others.
