Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has ruled out any form of celebration for his upcoming birthday.
In a statement, his media aide, Mr Joe Anatune, said, “We give thanks to God for His unquantifiable grace and mercy for preserving the life of Prof Chukwuma Soludo (CFR) to attain the Diamond age of 60 in wisdom and sound health.
“Soludo appreciates the groundswell of goodwill and enquiries which extended family members, friends, colleagues, associates, organisations, and support groups have been making to participate in sharing with him and his family the joy of attaining this landmark age.
“Ordinarily, he would have planned and executed an elaborate celebration to mark this milestone. But against the backdrop of the rampaging covid-19 pandemic and the mood of the world, he will not undertake any elaborate physical birthday event. He prefers the day be devoted to prayers and somber reflections on how the world will win the battle against the pandemic and overcome the associated economic challenges.
“He will rather wish that his friends, associates and support groups deploy such resources that would have been expended in celebrating him through media felicitation adverts and sundry gifts to touch the lives of the poor and the down trodden in our society.
“He will be highly delighted by such gestures in addition to remembering him in their prayers.
“Finally, Soludo extends his love and best wishes to all.”
