Fellow of the Advertising Practitioners’ Council of Nigeria, Dr. Jude Okechukwu Emecheta, says Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo should be commended for the peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations in Anambra state.
Emecheta said Ndi-Anambra from far and near returned home en masse for the end of the year cum new year festivities and they all had quality time with their loved ones devoid of the false alarm in the social media that the state was under siege and people should not return to their country home for the Yuletide.
Emecheta who spoke with NewsProbe, said he was in his Ozubulu country home in Ekwusigo Local Government Area for the Christmas and New Year festivities and observed that many indigenes of Ozubulu town returned from the United States of America, Europe and other parts of the globe to celebrate Christmas in the village.
He said a friend of his who returned from overseas for Christmas, rode through the lonely Azia-Osumoghu-Ihiala road  in his SUV and nothing happened to him contrary to insinuations that the said road had been taken over by unknown gunmen.
The former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Signage and Advertising Agency (ANSAA), noted that it was all tranquil atmosphere in all the 179 communities of the state as communities held town union elections, Ofala festivals, masquerade festivals, traditional marriage ceremonies, empowerment programmes and a host of other activities in peace and tranquility.
He said, “I moved around during the festive periods from one town to the other and there was no incidents whatsoever. People were moving around freely with all kinds of cars; I mean exotic cars. The atmosphere generally was peaceful and one can feel the conviviality.
“In fact, there is no place you pass in Anambra, you won’t see canopies. People were celebrating one thing or the other; marriages, funerals and what have you.
“My community was peaceful. A lot of guys came back from the US. I can count about 15 guys who came back from the US during the Christmas period and they were all at home.”
Emecheta said kudos should be given first to the Anambra State Government and secondly, to the security agencies and also to the citizens who in spite of insinuations of insecurity, celebrated their Christmas and New Year with relish.
He also stated that the community vigilantes should be given greater credit because they were at the forefront ensuring that the communities were rescued from the incursions and invasions of hoodlums who may want to truncate the peaceful atmosphere of the Yuletide season.
According to him, the Anambra State Police Command is not left out in the array of commendations as police operatives alongside men of the Nigerian Army and other security agents were visible ensuring law and order across the state during the Yuletide season, stressing that whatever security strategy that was deployed to achieve the watertight security of the last Christmas and New Year celebrations in the state should be maintained and sustained for greater successes moving forward.
