By Christian Aburime

The growing support for Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, the leading All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, governorship candidate for the November 6 Anambra governorship election grew bigger when Hon. Charles Chinwendu Odedo led thousands of supporters mainly from the All Progressive Congress, APC and other political parties in Idemili South and North local government areas to join APGA in Support of Soludo at Nnobi, Anambra state.

Hon. Charles Odedo, a two-term Federal House of Representatives member in the 6th and 7th Assembly said he decided to join APGA with his thousands of supporters primarily to support Prof Charles Soludo’s governorship ambition.

To achieve this goal, the former APC chieftain said he has set up a Multi- Party Support Group called “Udo ga-achi”.

According to him, this Support Group which comprises all the former members of APC, PDP, YPP and other political parties in Idemili North and South LGAs of Anambra state have switched allegiance to work for Prof Soludo in actualizing his ambition of becoming the next Governor of Anambra State.

Hon. Odedo also stated that Idemili North and South has the highest number of registered voters of over 300,000 and can deliver 100,000 votes to APGA in support of Soludo. He therefore appealed to the APGA leadership and the party delegates to give Soludo the ticket as their standard-bearer in the coming governorship election

He commended Governor Willie Obiano for the tremendous progress he has made in the state with the legacy infrastructure he has put in place.

He also commended Dr Nelson Obinna Omenugha, Convener, Youth Earnestly Seek Soludo (YESS), who was a guest of honour at the event and presented a cheque of N1 million to the group in furtherance of their support for Soludo.

Receiving the mammoth crowd with some members of APGA leadership in the local government area, Prof Charles Soludo expressed his gratitude to them for their support for him and his party, APGA. He specifically thanked Hon. Charles Odedo for leading the supporters to APGA in support of his gubernatorial ambition.

Prof. Soludo commended the importance of Support Groups, saying the call for him to join the race for the governorship election in the state started from the Support Group of YESS led by Dr Nelson Omenugha and the number later grew to 23 self-funding Support Groups spread across the state expending their time, energy and resources in support for his candidacy.

Soludo told the supporters that APGA has maintained the legacy of serving the people of Anambra state dutifully for the past years. He said Governor Willie Obiano has further taken that legacy to a higher level with the opening of Anambra Cargo and Passenger Airport, said to have the longest runway in Nigeria, the International Conference Center and the Awka Stadium that is nearing completion including the many road bridges that now adorn the entire state.

Soludo said these are great achievements by the Governor that has opened the state up for greater development. Soludo therefore re-assured the crowd that if he becomes the governor with their support he will build on these great legacies.

The event also attracted top government functionaries and politicians in the state. These include the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof Solo Chukwulobelu; Hon. Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof Kate Omenugha; Special Adviser on Political Matters, Hon. (Barr) Ifeatu Obi-Okoye; Member, Representing Anambra East Constituency, State House of Assembly, Pharm. Obinna Emenaka.

Others include, Hon. (Dr) Ifeanyi Ibezim former Member, House of Representatives; Mr Jude Emecheta, MD of Anambra Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA); Hon Chinedu Nwoye Glamour, Chairman of All Soludo Support Group (ASSG).

Some of the high profile guests at the event also took turns to speak glowingly on Soludo’s candidacy for the forthcoming guber election.

Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezim called on the audience to give Soludo total support in the journey to Anambra government house, adding that it is the only way to continue the good work of Governor Willie Obiano. Dr Nelson Omenugha, in his speech, reiterated his group unalloyed support for Soludo and the APGA party. Other speakers who spoke said they were coming in the political space this time round mainly because of Soludo and they promised to mobilize more supporters for Soludo and APGA.

The epoch-making gathering was moderated by Sir Tony Oneweek Muonagor, Special Adviser on Diaspora Matters and former Minority leader, Anambra State House of Assembly.
