UNESCO And IUCTE Varanasi Partner To Empower Educators In South-South Countries

The UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) and the Inter-University Centre for Teacher Education (IUCTE), Varanasi, India, have signed an agreement to jointly implement a series of initiatives aimed at empowering educators through professional development programs. This partnership focuses on promoting knowledge exchange between Indian and international teachers, particularly from countries under the South-South Cooperation framework.

According to a UNESCO publication, under the terms of this agreement, UNESCO MGIEP and IUCTE Varanasi will work together to:

Collaborate in Knowledge Sharing: The two organizations will jointly organize training sessions, workshops, conferences, and events designed to build the capacities of international and Indian teachers. These activities will focus on innovative teaching practices, sustainable development, and the integration of digital technologies in education.

Pilot Training Program: In November 2024, the partnership will launch two in-person pilot training cohorts, each consisting of 30 participants. These 7-day training sessions will bring together educators from countries engaged in South-South Cooperation. The program will focus on UNESCO MGIEP’s specialized courses for teacher training, offering participants cutting-edge pedagogical tools and methodologies.

This partnership marks a significant step toward strengthening South-South Cooperation and supporting the professional growth of teachers. By focusing on knowledge-sharing and capacity-building, UNESCO MGIEP and IUCTE aim to contribute to the global goal of quality education for all.
