We Have Only One Traditional Ruler In Ifitedunu — Sam Nweke

By Raymond Ozoji, Awka

Former President-General of Ifitedunu Town Union in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Sam Nweke, has vehemently debunked claims by the incumbent President-General Chief Uchenna Nwoye Oragwuncha that there are two traditional rulers fighting for supremacy in Ifitedunu community.
Nweke, who currently functions as the Chairman of Board of Trustees of Ifitedunu town, said unequivocally that there is only one traditional ruler in Ifitedunu community in the person of His Royal Highness Igwe Dr. Emeka Ilouno.
He said Vincent Udobi has never acted or paraded himself as traditional ruler instead he has continued to extend benevolence and generosity to the people of Ifitedunu and beyond with his personal resources.
According to him, the services of the incumbent President-General is no longer needed in the community. That the community has unanimously passed a vote of no confidence on him and impeached him due to his shoddy deals and maladministration.
Nweke said, “We have only one traditional ruler in Ifitedunu His Royal Highness Igwe Dr. Emeka Ilouno. We don’t have any other traditional ruler. Anybody saying we have two traditional rulers in Ifitedunu is a pure liar.
“Uchenna Nwoye Oragwuncha should show us any paper where Vincent Udobi has his name as His Royal Highness. The problem is that Uchenna Nwoye Oragwuncha is trying to destroy Ifitedunu town before he leaves. In fact he has already been impeached. He is no longer the President-General of Ifitedunu town.
“He is a convict. The Federal High Court convicted him. Actually he is on bail pending appeal which means he is currently in prison. So whatever he is saying is just blatant lies because Vincent Udobi never paraded himself as Igwe and I have never heard where Vincent Udobi said his name is His Royal Highness or Ezedunu. This is what Uchenna Nwoye Oragwuncha is saying.”
Nweke revealed that there are five villages in Ifitedunu and that the traditional stool rotates amongst the five villages. That whatever Uchenna Nwoye Oragwuncha is saying is pure nonsense. That the Igwe of Ifitedunu is His Royal Highness Igwe Dr. Chukwuemeka Ilouno JP, Ezedunu Ifitedunu.
He said it is the community that decides who becomes their President-General and not government. According to him, after the Federal High Court sentenced Oragwuncha to one year imprisonment without an option of fine, Ifitedunu called a meeting and removed him from office by passing a vote of no confidence on him.
Nweke, who spoke with our correspondent exclusively, said Oragwuncha had sent his thugs to cause havoc in Ifitedunu which he said was the remote reason the government of Willie Obiano sacked him from office. But that he was reinstated by his bosom friend Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne currently serving as Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Town Union Matters under Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.
Nweke also noted that apart from the jail sentence served on Oragwuncha, he erected some shops at Nkwo market without the consent of the community and sold them at the rate of N2.5 million each whereas shops erected at the said location are given out free of charge to locals for petty businesses, adding that the traditional ruler HRH Igwe Dr. Emeka Ilouno, ex-governor Willie Obiano and some others erected shops there and gave them out free without any costs whatsoever.
He therefore emphasized that the community has resolved that Uchenna Nwoye Oragwuncha has been impeached and he remains impeached. That Ifitedunu now has a new President-General unanimously endorsed by the community while Igwe Dr. Emeka Ilouno remains traditional ruler of Ifitedunu town and nobody else, stressing that there are no two traditional rulers in Ifitedunu.
