2023: Politicians Should Avoid Campaigns Of Vendetta — Emecheta

By Raymond Ozoji, Awka

Former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency, Chief Jude Okechukwu Emecheta, has advised politicians to avoid incisive cum sarcastic comments as they embark on their campaigns.
Emecheta, who gave the admonition in Awka during an exclusive interview with our correspondent, noted that there was absolutely no need for campaigns of vendetta; instead, candidates of political parties should do well to dwell on issues they seek to address if elected into office.
He said politicians and their supporters should eschew campaigns that could heat up the polity especially with the recent killing of five soldiers at Umunze Orumba-South local government area of the state as such would be extremely counter productive.
The former ANSAA boss was equally of the opinion that security agents should be more proactive and responsive to security breaches now that the campaigns were currently ongoing and that government was working assiduously to have the security situation in Anambra state under total control.
He said rather than cast aspersions or castigate individuals to score cheap political points, politicians should focus on the viability of their manifestoes if elected to serve in the next political dispensation.
Emecheta said, “As the campaigns begin, the security agents should be on their guards. I feel so sad to hear that five soldiers were killed in their van. I feel so sad. This thing that happened at Umunze is a cross border thing.
“The Army should please step up their efforts. They should team up with the local vigilantes and let’s clear these boys from Anambra and Imo states and we will be saved. The boys who are doing these things are Igbos. It is time security agents swung into action and take charge.”
