Soludo Won’t Borrow Away Future Of Anambra Citizens — Budget Commissioner

By Raymond Ozoji, Awka
The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning in Anambra state, Chiamaka Nnake, has assured Ndi-Anambra that the Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, will not borrow away their future contrary to insinuations and distractions  in some sections of the social media.
Nnake, who gave the assurance in Awka while entertaining questions from journalists shortly after a stakeholders interactive session on the proposed 2023 budget, explained that the governor might not borrow money in the next one year to run the state because she said emphasis would be placed on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
The Budget Commissioner disclosed that the Governor has not borrowed any money to run the state since this year. Although the Commissioner stated that N100 Billion had been approved for the Governor to borrow, it has not been accessed by the governor; that from all indications, what the state would access is N90 Billion, which she said would form part of the 2023 budget.
She said if government has its way, it will not borrow any money to run the state as she believes the state government can source funds through federal allocations and IGR to address critical needs.
She however told journalists that the essence of the stakeholders interaction was to explain the budget to Ndi-Anambra and also obtain feedback from them so that their expectations would be addressed in the budget in order to guarantee a liveable and prosperous Anambra state for all and sundry.
